Tricky Math You Say?

Do you ever find specific skills in math that are the most tricky for students?  Over the years I have always dreaded teaching the first few lessons in multiplication, division, and fractions.  Getting those little minds to think differently can always be a challenge.

Monday I discussed how tricky fractions and equivalent fractions are for my fourth graders this year.  We are continuing to work on fractions using a variety of resources.  I love using interactive notebooks, manipulatives, and student white boards in my lessons, but I recently decided to try using technology.  Here are a few websites I have used this week.

I love using a video to grab my student's attention at the beginning of a lesson, especially on a skill they find difficult.  We watched Brain Pop Jr.'s Equivalent Fraction video, which really helped my students look at equivalent fraction differently.

This website provides links several GREAT fraction games!  Here are a few of my favorite:

But if you really want good resources for multiplication, division, and fractions then you are going to love this amazing deal over at Educents!  I have teamed up with 5 other amazing sellers to load your classrooms with 10 resources to help kids with this tricky math!

  2. Hi Jess! Thanks for linking to the Brain Pop resources, they are new to me! I like using a few of the virtual manipulatives on this site www.nlvm.usu.edu. They are great for teaching fractions and other things.

  4. Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this blog.
It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to
get that "perfect balance" between superb usability
and visual appeal. I must say you have done a very good job with this.
In addition, the blog loads super fast for me on Internet explorer.
    Exceptional Blog!
